Topic: creating a wet, slicked-back look with firm hold

Hi there,

I am wondering what is the best product (gel or pomade) to create a wet, slicked-back look that will hold in place without looking greasy for a formal evening event?  And is it best to apply this product to hair when it is wet or dry?  How much to apply?

Many thanks in advance for your advice on this.

Tamara

Hello Tamara,

I would recommend trying to pomade on dry hair and just use a dime sized amount.  I would recommend trying this out before the event to see if it works for your hair type.

Happy hair journey!

Hi Katie,

Thanks so much for your prompt suggestion.  Unfortunately, I did try exactly that, and it really didn't work well, which is what prompted me to post this question to the forum.  My hair wound up looking really greasy, and it didn't stay in place, but fell down limp and stringy.  There was no "hold" to speak of.  I should say that my hair is fine, and I've never used product in my hair other than shampoo my entire life (even conditioner was too heavy, and I really didn't need it anyway.)  So while I am immensely enjoying the MM shampoos, I am kind of clueless about the styling end of things.  Maybe I should go with the gel and try to comb it in wet, or something like that . . . ?

Thanks again,
Tamara

Tamara,

I would recommend trying the gel, but applying it to wet hair and only use a dime sized amount.
